Here’s the million-dollar question: is it childcare, child care, or child-care?
Good question! Simply stated, the Merriam-Webster (American English), Oxford (British English), and Collins (British English) dictionaries all list the correct main spelling as “childcare.” Naturally, we agree, and we think we’re right!
Do your babysitters bring fun activities for the children?
Yes, our babysitters will bring toys, books, board games, or other age-appropriate activities for the children.
In what settings do your babysitters provide care?
Our babysitters will provide childcare services at a family’s home, hotel, Airbnb rental, you name it!

It is a 10% discount on our booking fees, specifically for residents of Hawaiʻi.
Do I have to pay for your babysitter’s parking?
If the specified location does not have free parking available on-site, nearby, or within a reasonable walking distance, then all parking-related fees and expenses must be reimbursed to the babysitter.
Do I have to pay for your babysitter’s travel?
No, but our babysitters do appreciate a travel tip, especially if traveling long distances.
Are your babysitters allowed to take pictures of the children?
Yes, so long as parental consent is given.
Are your babysitters allowed to drive the children on excursions?
Yes, so long as parental consent is given.
If I hire a nanny from your agency, does that mean I become an employer?
Yes, which means you will be responsible for anything employment- and tax-related upon hiring.
What happens if one of your babysitters cancels a childcare session?
We will immediately attempt to find a replacement babysitter. If no other babysitters are available, we will issue a refund for the Childcare Service Fee or Childcare Membership Fee on a prorated basis, or provide a credit to be used at a later time, whichever you choose.
Should I tip your babysitters?
Tips for our babysitters are optional and appreciated but certainly not expected. Babysitters should expect to earn the agreed-upon hourly rate at the end of the session. Families should never feel obligated to tip our babysitters.
Is 808Nanny insured?
Yes, we carry a $2 million liability insurance policy. We can provide the insurance certificate upon request.
What’s the difference between 808Nanny and sites like Care.com and Sittercity?
At 808Nanny, we will respond to you quickly and personally and hold our nannies and babysitters accountable. We know you want trustworthy, experienced, and reliable care for your children. You can be confident in knowing all our Childcare Superheroes have been carefully selected and thoroughly screened where many candidates do not make it through our 30-Point NannyScreen. In the event of an emergency cancellation, we’ve got your back and will work diligently to make sure you’ve got the childcare coverage you need.
How does 808Nanny screen nannies and babysitters?
A prospective nanny or babysitter must fill out our extensive Childcare Superhero Application which gets reviewed to confirm all minimum requirements have been satisfied. We then initiate a preliminary phone call or email correspondence to ensure the candidate’s interests align with the vision of 808Nanny. Next, we schedule the interview. At this stage, we want to learn about the candidate to find out what they think about childcare and child development, what they consider age-appropriate activities, what age groups they have experience with, how they approach challenges and discipline, how they would handle an emergency, and many more important aspects of caring for children. If the candidate passes the interview, they will undergo a thorough background investigation as part of our 30-Point NannyScreen. Detailed information about any nanny or babysitter is available to our families, including references and background checks.
What localities does 808Nanny serve?
Right now, we only serve the entire island of Oʻahu but do have plans to start expanding elsewhere in Hawaiʻi first in the not-too-distant future.
Does your agency provide care to children with special needs?
Yes, many of our Childcare Superheroes have experience handling children with special needs such as allergies or asthma, anxiety, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy, developmental delays, Down syndrome, emotional disturbances, oppositional defiant disorder, or sensory sensitivity.
Does your agency accept or receive subsidized payments from the Child Care Connection Hawaiʻi (CCCH) subsidy program?
Unfortunately, not at this time. Being that we specialize in providing in-home and mobile childcare services, the CCCH subsidy program offered by the State of Hawaiʻi Department of Human Services (DHS) currently only confers subsidy payments to DHS-approved childcare providers, specifically both licensed day care centers/facilities and caregivers who administer family day care. More information about the CCCH subsidy program can found by visiting the CCCH website or calling (808) 566-2600.
